My HISTORICAL DOLL ENTRY FOR PRIYA'S CONTEST

Priya is having a contest at her blog (American Girl Play Ground) and I have decided to enter.
Here is the doll and the story. Sorry about the doll, I had a little trouble with the making of her. Head is from AG website. Dress was found on Etsy.

The wind slashes and lashes Pearl May's hair. Dust is thrown into her eyes. Pearl coughs and  weezes as she fights the dust. It is one of the worst dust storms of the year 1934.
Pearl finally stumbles into her small farm house, sweeping buckets of dust into the room as well. Her mother has wet rags already draped over the windows, but Pearl knows that they will only keep a little dust out. Her father races from the cellar with a rag aver his mouth and one for his daughter.
"Pearl May Parker! What has happened to you?" he coughs. Pearl  races down behind her father, wanting to explain her tardiness but whenever she tries she coughs puffs of dust.
Once in the shelter of the cellar she tries to speak but words refuse to come.
Mother looks worried. "Pearl, have you been coughing dust?" Pearl manages a nod.
Her parents start to murmer looking terrified. Pearl doesn't know what to think but she knows the conversation is on her.
In a few weeks with smaller dust storms, Pearl's coughing has grown terrible. A respiratory doctor will be in Dalhart, her town, next month in May. Some families, including the Parkers' closest friends, have decided to wait for the doctor.  But the Parkers' won't. Even though there is a small hospital nearby the nurses can only do so much.
Much to Pearl's horror, her mother and father make the difficult decision to send Pearl to a city in Kansas where doctors can tend to her severe case of dust pneumonia.
Pearl's parents can not come since money is scarce, but her rich aunt and uncle escort her to Kansas. Goodbyes are tough and although everyone tries to stay composed her parents' faces scream the same thing: Why, God, must you take our only child?
Along the way to the hospital in Kansas Pearl almost loses her life.
At the hospital, after a surgery to remove dust from her stomach, Pearl discovers how family and love truly are the most important things in the world-something she didn't truly understand. But in order to confirm this discovery, Pearl will have to rely on the grace of the Lord and pray to find a way home.

I also would like to say that even though the time is so close to Kit's, the dust bowl was a whole other case then the great depression. And I have parent's permission!
Love,
